Folh1

FOLH1, usually called glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCPII), is encoded by POLH1 gene in human. it is an enzyme and contains 750 amino and weighs approximately 84 kDa. it has both folate hydrolase and N-acetylated-alpha-linked-acidic dipeptidase (NAALADase) activity. Moreover, it has a preference for tri-alpha-glutamate peptides. In the intestine, it involves in the uptake of folate. In the brain, it plays a role in modulating excitatory neurotransmission through the hydrolysis of the neuropeptide, N-aceylaspartylglutamate (NAAG), thereby releasing glutamate. Additionally, it is also involved in prostate tumor progression.
