Me1

ME1 is a gene in humans that encodes NADP-dependent malic enzyme. Its molecular function includes ADP binding, electron transfer activity, malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating) (NAD+) activity, malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating) (NADP+) activity, malic enzyme activity, manganese ion binding, NAD binding, NADP binding and oxaloacetate decarboxylase activity. The protein acts as an emzyme that catalyzes the following reactions: (S)-malate + NADP+ = pyruvate + CO2 + NADPH. Oxaloacetate = pyruvate + CO2.
